“New FamilySearch Family Tree, and What to Expect in The Transition”

FamilySearch is changing the interface for viewing our family history data in their system. The “old” interface was nicknamed “new FamilySearch” and the new interface is called “FamilySearch Family Tree”. This transition is taking place gradually. Some important parts are already in operation and many UVTAGG members are using the new interface. This presentation will discuss how the changeover is going, how to work with the changes, and what to expect in the coming months.
Jim Ericson, as a Senior Product Marketing Manager for FamilySearch, provides marketing guidance for FamilySearch.org and helps recruit volunteers for online community efforts, including FamilySearch indexing. He is also responsible for the editorial strategy of FamilySearch.org and helping with the rollout of new products. Jim has spent several years promoting various online genealogy services, including Ancestry.com, OneGreatFamily and FamilyLink. At the last UVTAGG meeting members where asked for questions and problems relating to new FamilySearch and their data and Jim Ericson and those accompanying him will answer those questions. During the class period following the main presentation the FamilySearch Team has offered the Group the opportunity to “Ask an Admin.” The Team regularly does this at Family History conferences. They describe “Ask an Admin” sessions as follows: Join one of FamilySearch’s experienced data analysts for an individualized, 20-minute consultation to address (and even fix where possible) 1 or 2 data issues, learn tips and tricks to optimize your new FamilySearch experience, and get answers to your questions. (Please note: Some data issues require additional research and/or investigation. In those situations a Support case may be created and the data issue resolved at a later time). At press release time we don’t have the names of the full Admin Team, but there will be at least three, and the 20-minute appointments will begin at 10:40 and go to 1 PM, if required. It might be helpful if you bring your database on a jump drive and have a list of the PID’s (Personal Identifiers) and problems in your nFS data that you want to ask them about.
